Hockey: Hounslow just in time
IN ONE of only two all-Premier ties in yesterday's fifth round of the EHA Cup, Hounslow needed extra time to beat Brooklands 5-3. They took command following two lengthy suspensions to Brooklands players.
In the second all-Premier confrontation, Canterbury came from behind to win 4-1 against East Grinstead. The Sussex side was beaten 5-0 in a rearranged League game by Reading on Saturday when they suffered a crop of injuries, including their captain Stuart Head breaking four fingers, but they led at the interval yesterday through a Richard Gibson penalty stroke two minutes from the break.
In spite of a fine display by goalkeeper Jamie Westwood, Canterbury took control after the interval as Grinstead tired, with two goals from Danny Laslett on the resumption, another by Paul Wicken in the 56th minute and Stuart Humphries on the whistle.
The remaining non-National League sides have departed. The Cup holders Cannock inflicted the first defeat of the season on Old Georgians, winning 7-2, while a Jeremy Boyse hat-trick gave Lewes a 5-3 winagainst Old Cranleighians. Southgate, with Australian Todd Williams and Duncan Woods each scoring twice, beat Northampton Saints 6-0 while Teddington beat Wimbledon 4-0.
