Danish striker Jon Dahl Tomasson was Newcastle United's hero with two goals in a 3-2 win over PSV Eindhoven which sent Kenny Dalglish's team through to the final of the Dublin Quadrangular tournament at Lansdowne Road last night.

Tomasson was a revelation alongside the England captain Alan Shearer as were Newcastle's other new boys, goalkeeper Shay Given and Georgian midfielder Temur Ketsbaia.

Newcastle now meet the League of Ireland champions, Derry City, who had a surprise 3-2 win over Celtic. The Italian striker Paolo Di Canio, who has said he will leave the club after this pre-season tour, scored one of the Glasgow side's goals.
