McIlroy at No 3 to give UK top trio
Rory McIlroy has something else to celebrate – a climb to a career-high world ranking of third. Northern Ireland's new US Open champion overtook Martin Kaymer when the German failed to finish in the top eight at the BMW International Open in Munich yesterday.
Only Luke Donald and Lee Westwood are ahead of McIlroy, who is on a three-week break after his eight-shot victory at Congressional.
It is the first time since the rankings were launched in 1986 that the top three have been United Kingdom golfers.
Pablo Larrazabal beat Sergio Garcia in a play-off to win in Munich, his second European Tour title.
