Golf: Rostron to face the US

KIM ROSTRON, the new British women's amateur champion, was named yesterday in the Britain and Ireland team to defend the Curtis Cup in Minneapolis on 1-2 August.

The team to face the United States includes three of the players who won 111/2-61/2 at Killarney two years ago - Alison Rose, last year's British champion, Elaine Ratcliffe and Karen Stupples.

England provides five of the eight-strong side, Rostron, Ratcliffe and Stupples being joined by the 19-year-old Rebecca Hudson and Fiona Brown.

BRITAIN AND IRELAND CURTIS CUP TEAM (v United States, Minneapolis, 1- 2 Aug): F Brown (Heswall), R Hudson (Wheatley), H Monaghan (Heriot Watt University), B Morgan (Monmouth), E Ratcliffe (Sandiway), A Rose (Stirling), K Rostron (Clitheroe), K Stupples (Royal Cinque Ports). Non-playing captain: I Butler. Reserves: E Pilgrim (Celtic Manor), S O'Brien (Milltown), A Laing (Vale of Leven), L Nicholson (Heriot Watt University).
