Jurgen Klinsmann scored the only goal from the penalty spot to give Germany a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in a disappointing friendly match in Rotterdam last night.

The Dutch had a chance to equalise in the 32nd minute but Dennis Bergkamp put his penalty too close to the German goalkeeper, Andreas Kopke.

Yugoslavia, playing their first competitive match for four and a half years because of the United Nations embargo, beat the Faroe Islands 3- 1 in a World Cup qualifier in Belgrade, with the Aston Villa striker Savo Milosevic scoring one of the goals and Milan's Dejan Savicevic the other.

A hat-trick by striker Viorel Moldovan in a 13-minute spell in the first half helped Romania to a 5-0 victory over Georgia, who are one of England's World Cup qualifying opponents.

The Leeds striker Phil Masinga opened the scoring for South Africa against Brazil in a friendly in Johannesburg and Doctor Khumalo added a second only for the world champions to come back with second-half goals from Flavio Conceicao, Rivaldo and Bebeto to win 3-2.
