Brock Lesnar and Jinder Mahal kept their heads while many champions around them lost theirs on a busy night of WWE action at Summerslam.

A whole host of new champions were crowned at one of WWE’s biggest events of the year, but the marquee championships on both Raw and Smackdown stayed put as Lesnar survived a manic fatal four-way match to keep his title, Jinder Mahal getting the best of his number one contender Shinsuke Nakamura in an-all-too brief meeting.

Many others weren’t so fortunate; we have new tag team champions on Raw as the newly re-formed combination of Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose toppled Sheamus and Cesaro, while AJ Styles was a rare breed on the night in being the first incumbent to keep hold of his gold in beating Kevin Owens amid controversy with special guest referee Shane McMahon who was at loggerheads with both throughout.

For the first time in a year we got a glimpse of the Demon King persona of Finn Balor as he polished off Bray Wyatt in a theatric meeting of WWE's most unique characters.

Randy Orton needed less than ten seconds to see off the challenge of Rusev, while Raw's new Women's Champion is Sasha Banks after a submission win over Alexa Bliss saw her crowned for the fourth time.

Over on the Smackdown side of things, Natalya claimed her first title in six years with a deserved win over Naomi thanks to a punishing sharpshooter, while the momentum behind Big Cass shows no sign of relenting as he beat the Big Show with an impressive display.

John Cena picked up a win over Baron Corbin in a brief-but-brutal contest to kick off the main portion of the show, but there was controversy early in the night even before the doors to the venue had opened - literally. A two-hour pre-show got underway at 2pm local time; the same time the Barclays Center actually allowed people into the venue - meaning most missed the two first matches of the night.

Those bouts saw Geordie Neville reclaim his Cruiserweight title as he snuffed out the short reign of Akira Tozawa, before which The Miz and his Miztourage downing Jason Jordan and The Hardy Boyz.

Most, although not all, had at least managed to reach their seats by the time The Usos and The New Day showed up to try and steal the show before it had actually begun - a stunner of a tag match seeing the Samoan twins once again claim the gold.
