London Broncos moved into the play-off places with a last-gasp 10-6 win at home to in-form Hull yesterday, as Castleford Tigers slumped to a 29-14 defeat away to Warrington Wolves.

The Broncos led 4-0 at half-time through a try from Dennis Moran, before Paul King's converted effort just after the hour looked to have sealed victory for the visiting side. But it was Moran who had the last say when, with just seconds to go, he collected Michael Gillett's sharp pass and charged over. Paul Sykes booted the extra points for good measure.

Wigan's win over St Helens leaves defending champions Bradford, who beat Leeds on Friday, in top spot on points difference from St Helens, with just two rounds of the regular season left. Wigan are now three points adrift.

At Wilderspool, Warrington ensured their Super League safety with a stirring victory to end the Tigers' five-match unbeaten run. Warrington jumped into a 12-0 lead after just seven minutes thanks to tries from Darren Burns and Graham Appo, but Castleford hit back through Waine Pryce and Michael Eagar to reduce the deficit to 14-8 at half-time.

Warrington made their man advantage count shortly after the start of the second half when, with Ryan Hudson in the sinbin, Appo went over to score for the second time. Hooker Jon Clarke added another try, and two further penalties and a drop goal saw Lee Briers finish with 13 points. Eagar hit back for Castleford with his second try late on.

Halifax ensured they will be playing in the top flight next season with a 34-26 victory away to bottom club Salford. "The only consolation is that at least Wakefield lost, but our destiny is no longer in our own hands," Salford coach Karl Harrison said. "We were not good enough over the 80 minutes and lost concentration at times."

The Blue Sox ran in six tries with Danny Halliwell and Robbie Beckett both scoring twice while Gavin Clinch and David Woods also went over. Jamie Bloem kicked five goals. Stuart Reardon scored two tries for the home side, who live to fight another day following Wakefield's 36-20 defeat by Widnes.

The match at Belle Vue was well balanced at half-time with the Wildcats trailing 14-16, but play-off chasing Widnes came through thanks to scores from Jason Dimitrio and Graham Law, with Daniel Frame Barry Eaton extending the lead late on.

Adam Hughes kicked five goals for the Vikings, who are now in seventh spot, one point ahead of Castleford and only behind London on points-difference.
