Get a dictionary, look up the word "indecisive", and you may see a picture of Colin Montgomerie. The surly Scot is put through the wringer as he finally picks his Ryder Cup team. On planet football, Man City should sheikh, rattle and stroll to victory at Sunderland.

Tomorrow

It's tiresome to keep repeating "Andy Murray could win this one" but the US Open starts, it is his favourite surface, he is playing well, and he must win a major one day, mustn't he?

Tuesday

If you haven't seen one of their woeful adverts, you won't know Sky Sports News has "moved". Sadly not to another galaxy, just another channel. The presenters are now available in HD, which means you can clearly see their manic faces in the frenzied build-up to the transfer window closing.

Wednesday

I'm not saying it's dull, but the next two words I write are modern pentathlon.

Friday

Anyone daft enough to think football clubs don't hold all the power should notice that the European Championship qualifiers take place tonight, i.e. Friday. England host Bulgaria, while there are awkward away games for Scotland (in Lithuania), Wales (in Montenegro), the Republic of Ireland (in Armenia) and Northern Ireland (in Slovenia).

Saturday

Rugby's new Premiership season kicks off with a double-header at Twickenham and a derby of sorts for new boys Exeter (at home to Gloucester). The league is no longer sponsored by Guinness, so spare a thought for us sports-desk hacks – that means no more free cans of the black stuff. Getting our car insurance sorted by Aviva isn't the same.
