Ryan Lochte yesterday set the first individual swimming world record since high-tech bodysuits were outlawed.

The American won the 400m individual medley at the short-course world championships in Dubai in 3min 55.50sec, smashing the record set by Hungary's Laszlo Cseh a year ago by nearly two seconds. Tunisian Oussama Mellouli was second and American Tyler Clary third.
