Cycling: Wiggins keeps lead in Critérium

France's Arthur Vichot won stage five of the Critérium du Dauphiné yesterday, but Britain's Bradley Wiggins, riding for Team Sky, remained in the overall lead.

Vichot, of the FDJ-Big Mat team, attacked from a break of eight riders with 7km to go, on a mountainous stage from Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans to Rumilly. Spain's Egoi Martinez was second, around 25 seconds back, with Dimitriy Fofonov of Kazakhstan in third. Wiggins (pictured) leads the race by 38 seconds, from Germany's Tony Martin, of Omega Pharma-Quick-Step.

Alberto Contador has agreed a contract extension until 2015 with Team Saxo Bank, for when he returns to competition after a doping ban. The Spaniard, who was stripped of his 2010 Tour de France title and banned for two years after failing a test for the anabolic agent clenbuterol, is eligible to return on 5 August.
