Everton's Russian midfielder Diniyar Bilyaletdinov is set to join Spartak Moscow, after agreeing terms. The Russian Premier League club said they expected to complete the move after a medical.

The Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, meanwhile, said they had rejected a £16.7m offer from Chelsea for Willian, a 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder. Chelsea did not comment, although after Saturday's 0-0 draw at Norwich their manager, Andre Villas-Boas, said Willian was "very interesting".

Newcastle have been rebuffed in their attempt to prise the defender Adrian Mariappa away from Watford. An initial bid of £3m was rejected by the Championship club. Bolton and Swansea are also interested in the 25-year-old.

The Queen's Park Rangers loan target Henrique has been refused a work permit, much to manager Mark Hughes' dismay. A fuming Hughes was expecting great things of the 20-year-old Brazilian, but will now have to focus on other potential signings.

Rabiu Ibrahim yesterday said he had fulfilled a personal ambition by joining Celtic, after his move from PSV Eindhoven was completed. The 20-year-old Nigerian midfielder has been granted a work permit.

Ibrahim, who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal, said: "I feel very happy and excited to be joining Celtic. I have wanted to join Celtic for a long time, to develop myself. The atmosphere here is great, and the people are great. I already feel at home."

Wigan were reported to have agreed an undisclosed fee for Birmingham City's Chile winger Jean Beausejour.
