As we catch our breath, reflect and take stock of the most expensive ever Premier League transfer windows, there are certainly a number of talking points. Has Louis van Gaal got the squad that he feels can rebuild Manchester United, does Danny Welbeck transform Arsenal from pretenders to contenders, and can Chelsea be stopped?

In what has been a change to recent transfer windows, Manchester City appeared to take a back seat and let their nearest rivals duke it out for the best players on offer, perhaps with Uefa’s Financial Fair Play lurking in the rear-view mirror.

The rest of the top-four elect have certainly strengthened, noticeably Liverpool who have made no less than nine new signings and maintain interest in a 10th in the form of free agent Victor Valdes, while there have been a number of standout additions lower down the league table to speak of.

Hull emerged from deadline day with four new additions to their squad, while new boys Leicester and QPR made significant moves for holding midfielders Esteban Cambiasso and Sandro respectively.
