Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to sell Dani Osvaldo after the Italian striker reportedly head-butted Jose Fonte during a training ground altercation.

The incident marks just the latest controversy to hit the south coast club after boardroom upheaval threatens to derail their season.

Club-record £15m signing Osvaldo has subsequently been suspended for two weeks after leaving Fonte with facial injuries. It is also claimed that blood was drawn before he could be pulled away.

The Daily Telegraph report that the result of the emergency disciplinary hearing held yesterday afternoon was the agreement that the forward is no longer a part of Pochettino's plans.

"Southampton Football Club has today suspended striker Dani Osvaldo for two weeks, following an incident at the club’s Staplewood training ground," a club statement said.

"The club has taken swift and proper action for what it considers a breach of the conduct expected of its players. Southampton will be making no further comment on this matter."

Osvaldo, on the other hand, has previous after being fined and suspended by former club Roma for allegedly punching Erik Lamela in 2011.

He was already in fact banned for the FA Cup tie against Yeovil on Saturday, as he continues to serve his three-match ban for his part in a touchline malaise in December’s draw against Newcastle United.

He will now also miss the Premier League games against Arsenal next Tuesday and the trip to Fulham on Feb 1.
