Aston Villa are lining up a move for former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner, according to the Danish media.

Bendtner is a free agent after his deal with Arsenal expired and Paul Lambert is believed to be interested in bringing him to Villa Park.

The 26-year-old scored just twice in 14 appearances for Arsenal last season and was used mostly as a substitute by Arsene Wenger.

Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt have already offered Bendtner a three-year deal but he is believed to want to remain in the Premier League.

With Christian Benteke and Libor Kozak both suffering from long-term injury problems, Lambert wants to add another striker to his squad.

Nicklas Helenius will re-join Aalborg on a season-long loan after becoming unhappy with a lack of first team opportunities.

Villa have already added two free agents to their squad this summer, with Philippe Senderos and Joe Cole on already confirmed.
