Manchester United have reportedly sent scouts to monitor Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan as Jose Mourinho continues his efforts to strengthen the squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal.

The Uruguayan, who was also watched by representatives from Bayern Munich, scored 10 goals in 38 appearances for the French outfit last season. According to RMC, United are keen on making Rolan their first signing from Bordeaux since Gabriel Obertan in 2009.

United scouts were present as the 23-year-old scored the winning goal in the Ligue 1 victory against Nantes this weekend and are planning to continue their courtship of him into the next calendar year.

Meanwhile, Matteo Darmian seems destined to leave the 20-time champions of England with up to three clubs interested in signing the Italian international before the transfer window closes on Wednesday evening.

The 26-year-old has featured sparing for United this summer and, despite being a part of the squad to travel to Hull City this weekend, again failed to make an appearance for Mourinho’s side.

Darmian’s limited opportunities have seen him drop down the pecking order with his national side, too, with coach Giampiero Ventura dropping him from the Italy squad for this week’s World Cup qualifiers.

Bitter rivals Liverpool have stolen a march on United, according to The Sun, by maing a £30m target for long-term target Luan. The Gremio striker scored twice for Brazil’s gold-medal winning side at this summer’s Rio Olympics and has been courted by the North West club for some time.

With Jurgen Klopp suffering a breakdown in relations with Daniel Sturridge, the Anfield club are looking at alternative options in attacking positions, setting up the prospect of a deadline day tug-of-war with United.

Gremio vice-president Alberto Guerra said: “Every good player is targeted. If a proposal arrives, we will analyse.”
