Man City completing domestic treble is harder than winning the Champions League, says Pep Guardiola

Uli Hoeness has played down Bayern Munich’s chances of signing Leroy Sane from Manchester City, describing any potential transfer as “unlikely”.

Bayern are seeking long-term replacements for outgoing wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery and hope to bring Sané back to his native Germany.

City have little intention of selling the 23-year-old, however, and are planning to hold further contract talks with Sané in the coming weeks, with the aim of extending his stay beyond 2021.

If Sané were to leave this summer, City would demand a hefty fee – most likely more than £90million - and Bayern president Hoeness has suggested that the Bundesliga club could be priced out.

“It is unlikely that it will work,” he told Kicker. “It’s about amounts, which are insane.”

Sané is held in high regard at the Etihad but fell down the pecking order this season and was often reduced to a place on the substitutes’ bench.

Pep Guardiola started Sané in just 21 of City’s 38 Premier League games and only four of their 10 outings in the Champions League, despite the winger being named PFA Young Player of the Year in 2018.
