Mamadou Sakho is expected to languish on the bench for the rest of the season after ignoring Jurgen Klopp’s warning to leave Liverpool.

The German coach reportedly told Sakho to find a new club, for either a loan or permanent transfer, after the pair fell out during the club’s pre-season trip to the USA.

According to the Mirror, Klopp challenged the French international to prove his worth to Anfield by playing at another club.

But it’s believed Sakho turned down an approach from Tukey’s Besiktas in the closing days of the transfer window, having also snubbed Stoke and West Brom.

If reports are to be believed, the Baggies were even prepared to buy Sakho for £20m.

The Frenchman’s resistance to move away from Anfield has subsequently left Klopp frustrated over how to deal with the player.

Sakho was bought for £18m from Paris Saint-Germain three years ago but now faces the prospect of spectating from the sidelines.

Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip , Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez will all be considered ahead of Sakho, with the midfielder Lucas Leiva able to provide cover in an emergency.

After sending Sakho home from the tour last month, Klopp said: "It is how I said, we have some rules and we have to respect them.

"If somebody doesn’t respect it, or somebody gives me the feeling he is not respecting it, then I have to react, that’s all.”

Despite failing to find Sakho an appropriate suitor, Klopp still managed to offload a total of 13 players.

Only once before in Liverpool’s 124-year history have so many players left the club during a summer.

Mario Balotelli’s disastrous spell with the club was finally brought to an end with only a few hours left of transfer deadline day as he signed for Nice.

Other notable departures include Jerome Sinclair (Watford, £4m), Martin Skrtel (Fenerbahce, £5.5m) and Kolo Toure (Celtic, free transfer).
