Manchester United vs Bournemouth: Can Louis van Gaal afford to rest players with FA Cup final on horizon?
Rescheduled Premier League game set to disrupt plans for Saturday's trip to Wembley
Manchester United vs Bournemouth has been rearranged for Tuesday night following the abandonment of the match at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The game was called off following the discovery of a suspect package inside the stadium which later transpired to have been a dummy device left behind in error following a training exercise.
The game was swiftly rescheduled but with every other team having completed their campaigns, Manchester United and Bournemouth have the advantage of knowing exactly what's on the line and how they should approach the game...
MANCHESTER UNITED...
Manchester United are currently sixth, level on points with Southampton but behind on goal difference. A draw would move them above Saints into fifth. Fourth is not a mathematical impossibility but Louis van Gaal would need to mastermind a win by 19 goals if they are to go above Manchester City - and that's not going to happen.
Whether Manchester United finish fifth or sixth they are guaranteed to qualify for the Europa League, rendering the game nearly pointless except in terms of the extra merit money for finishing a place higher.
With Manchester United preparing to play Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on Saturday it's possible Van Gaal will pick a weakened team in order to protect his best players for the trip to Wembley.

BOURNEMOUTH...
Eddie Howe's side are currently 16th and with a draw can rise one place. With a win they could jump all the way to 13th.
With every position up the league table worth an additional £1,236,083, Bournemouth could improve their merit money from £6.2m to £9.9m with victory on Tuesday night.
