Manchester United: Paul Pogba throws his weight behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for permanent manager

Pogba has scored nine goals in 17 appearances since the Norwegian caretaker took charge

Paul Pogba has thrown his full weight behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be instated as Manchester United‘s permanent manager.

Since taking over from Jose Mourinho, the Norwegian caretaker has totally reversed fortunes at the club, leading the side to a heroic victory over PSG in the Champions League round of 16 and back into top-four contention.

Pogba, whose relationship with Mourinho became infamously fraught as the Portuguese oversaw United’s worst start to a league campaign for 28 years, says Solskjaer has brought “freedom to the squad”.

“Of course we want him to stay,” Pogba told Sky Sports. “The results have been great. I have a great relationship with him, he has a great relationship with the players.

“When a player is happy, he wants to keep being happy. Solskjaer deserves it. He knows the club, he knows everything about the club.

“He is a really happy coach that gave confidence back to the players.

“This gave us the freedom to play and enjoy football again because maybe we lost that with the results that we had before.”

Pogba has scored nine goals in 17 games since Solskjaer took charge and made little attempt to veil his displeasure about the time under Mourinho.

However, having recemented his integral role for United, the French World Cup-winner is relieved to be looking toward the future.

“Maybe we lost confidence, maybe things went wrong,” Pogba said. “A lot of talking outside that we weren’t used to.

“I don’t like to talk about the past. I like to talk about the future because that’s what matters.

“We are better now and the results have been brilliant. We are back in the top four.”
