Yaya Toure’s father has pleaded with Pep Guardiola to forgive his son and give him another chance at Manchester City.

The long-serving City midfielder has been frozen out of Guardiola’s team as the Catalan looks to establish a new era at the Etihad Stadium.

Agent Dimitri Seluk has further hindered Toure’s cause after publicly criticising Guardiola and accusing him of treating the club’s players “like dogs”.

Speaking to the Sun, Toure’s father Mory said: “I’m worried about him. It’s a problem. We ask Guardiola to come down to earth.

“He’s the boss I ask him for forgiveness, to let my son do his work.”

Toure has just one year left on his contract but has so far only made one appearance in City’s second leg play-off against Steaua Bucharest.

Regarded as one of the club’s greatest players, Toure has won two Premier League titles with the side but Guardiola has said the Ivorian will not play under him again until Seluk apologies for his comments.

Seluk has openly refused to do so, however, and has instead claimed that the Catalan should apologise to Manuel Pellegrini for taking his job.

The petulant war of words has left Toure out in the cold with his long-term prospects at City looking increasingly bleak.

But Mory remains hopeful that his son can still play a role at the Etihad.

He added: “Yaya loves the club a lot, he’s a good player for the team. He has the morale to play.

“I can’t speak in his place. I think he’ll stay. He’s intelligent. He’ll make a good choice after.”
