Manchester City vs Chelsea: Pep Guardiola's men see red as both Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho are sent off
Tensions reached breaking point at the Etihad Stadium after City threw away a 1-0 lead to concede three second-half goals
Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Manchester City ended in fireworks as both Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho were sent off in the final minutes of extra time.
The two City players were shown their marching orders as tensions reached breaking point at the Etihad Stadium after City threw away a 1-0 lead to concede three second-half goals.
Aguero’s frustration appeared to get the better of him in the 94th minute as the Argentine threw his body at Chelsea’s David Luiz with a dangerous two-footed tackle in a desperate bid to reclaim possession.
Chelsea’s players immediately descended upon the forward as the two teams squared up to one another.
As the players confronted one another near the left-hand side touchline, another fight broke out as an irate Fernandinho appeared to grab Cesc Fabregas by the throat before pushing the Spaniard over the billboards.
Before referee Anthony Taylor had time to regain control, both Chelsea and City’s coaching staff were involved as they sought to break up the on-pitch confrontations.
Aguero and Fernandinho were subsequently dismissed prior to the final whistle with the former set to serve a four-match game ban.
