Jordon Ibe contract: Liverpool prospect set to follow Jordan Henderson and sign new Liverpool deal

Jordan Henderson is set to sign a £100,000-a-week, five-year contract with Liverpool on Thursday

Liverpool are hopeful of following up the long-term deal for Jordan Henderson with another for Jordon Ibe, the 19-year-old who has a year left on his contract to run after this season.

Ibe has impressed this season and made a return from injury earlier this month. He was Cup-tied for the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, having gone on loan to Derby County, and has found himself under scrutiny in recent weeks having been the latest young English footballer pictured holding shisha pipes, this time with team-mate Raheem Sterling. The club are keen to get their latest promising teen secured on a five-year contract.

Liverpool are set to announce the signing of Henderson’s five-year contract on Thursday and expect a deal for Ibe to be agreed before the end of the season.

There is also some hope that a new contract can be agreed with defender Martin Skrtel, who has a single year left on his deal after this season. After another difficult few days following the defeat to Villa, the club hope to steady the ship with some contract announcements.

The £100,000-a-week deal for Henderson is the same one that was offered to Sterling but there is no prospect of him coming to the table before the end of the season, having asked the club to put off any talks until then. Increasingly, it looks as if Liverpool will have to make a decision on Sterling’s long-term future this summer rather than allow his contract to run down to its final year.

There is nothing planned by like the big spending Brendan Rodgers embarked upon a year ago with the club hoping to sign free agents Danny Ings and James Milner, as well as getting Divock Origi back from his year on loan.

They would also like to offer Kolo Touré a new deal in order to retain his experience in what could potentially be a young squad. However, there is a chance that Touré, as well as the out-of-contract Glen Johnson and Mario Balotelli will leave, along with MLS-bound Steven Gerrard.

The club’s owners, the Fenway Sports Group have remained supportive of Rodgers through their recent run of three defeats in five games and have started planning the summer’s trading with their manager.
