Djibril Cisse thinks poor refereeing from Chris Foy denied QPR vital points yesterday, but still believes the Londoners are good enough to avoid relegation from the Barclays Premier League.

The 2-1 defeat to West Brom at Loftus Road left Harry Redknapp's team bottom of the table.

Robert Green failed to stop a 30-yard drive from Chris Brunt in the first half and the goalkeeper's afternoon then took another turn for the worse when he dropped the ball into his own net to make it 2-0 to Albion.

Replays showed that West Brom forward Marc-Antoine Fortune clearly backed into Green, stopping the England goalkeeper from collecting the ball that had looped up in the air off Armand Traore, but Foy allowed the goal to stand.

Redknapp was furious at Foy's performance afterwards and Cisse, who scored the hosts' only goal, also hit out at the official's decision to allow Albion's second goal to stand.

"I've seen the video again and again and it was clearly a foul for their second goal," Cisse told QPR's website.

"He didn't attempt to play the ball. Rob couldn't do anything. It was a clear foul and it cost us dearly.

"We all feel sympathy for Rob. It wasn't his fault. There was nothing he could do. He was clearly fouled.

"Everyone in the stadium was waiting for the referee to award a foul. He didn't, and it's cost us points."

After going four games unbeaten under Redknapp, QPR now host Liverpool on Sunday having lost two matches in a row.

The Londoners are now six points adrift of 17th-placed Southampton, who have a match in hand, but Cisse is convinced Rangers can go on another similar run to the one that allowed them to escape the drop by the skin of their teeth last season.

The striker said: "We did it last year. So why not this year again? We have to keep fighting. That is all we can do."

West Brom, meanwhile, could find themselves third in the table on Saturday afternoon if results go their way and they pull off a shock win at Manchester United.

The prospect of such a feat would have been unthinkable at the start of the campaign, but such has been the impact of new manager Steve Clarke that Baggies fans are convinced they can challenge for a European qualification spot this term.

Jonas Olsson, one of Albion's star performers on Boxing Day, insists his team-mates are not getting carried away with their excellent start, but admitted the team is capable of competing with the division's biggest clubs.

"Our first goal before the start of the season was to get to 40 points and we haven't reached that yet," the centre-back said.

"I just think we need to keep this form going. Then we will see how we are going at the end of the season.

"We want to be up there as long as possible, hopefully at the end of May as well.

"People talked early on, saying that we had a good start, and now we are 19 games into the season and we are up there so hopefully we can keep it up and keep battling for the places in that region."

Clarke may have to be without Olsson, Goran Popov and Youssouf Mulumbu for Saturday's trip to Old Trafford after they all suffered injuries yesterday.

Olsson suffered a groin problem, Popov limped off in the first half at Loftus Road with a hamstring injury and Mulumbu picked up a leg injury.

Olsson said: "It felt good until the last few minutes. I don't know if I will miss the Manchester United game or not.

"Sometimes you have to rest a day, a week, a couple of weeks. We will wait and see."
