Coronavirus: ‘Mystery’ Liverpool player leaves anonymous £25,000 donation at Alder Hey children’s hospital

A Liverpool player has anonymously donated £25,000 to Alder Hey children’s hospital amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Hospitals across the country have felt the pressure of increased admissions due to the outbreak of Covid-19, and Alder Hey has tripled the capacity of its intensive care unit as a result of the crisis.

A spokesperson for the hospital took to Twitter to thank the unnamed Liverpool player for their contribution.

”We’re so grateful to the @LFC player who has made a donation to the @AlderHeyCharity COVID-19 appeal for £25,000!” they said.

“The player wishes to remain anonymous, but on behalf of all of our staff, patients and their families, thank you.”

Alder Hey are requesting donations to help deal with the influx of patients.

A statement on the hospital’s website reads: “Alder Hey has tripled its intensive care capacity to support more of the region’s most seriously ill children, as well as its ability to provide intensive care support for young adults when needed.

“The hospital’s incredible staff are going above and beyond to guarantee patients receive the care they need in these most difficult times.

“We urgently need your help to support the hospital in whatever way we can as it copes with the Covid-19 crisis. Thank you.”
