Chelsea transfer news: Ramires interest from Juventus sees Blues open talks

Chelsea have opened talks with Ramires over a new contract amid the threat the Brazil international could leave for Juventus.

The Champions League finalists are fending off interest in their own midfielder Paul Pogba, who is wanted by Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City.

Chelsea expressed an interest in the France international themselves, but have been scared off by his price tag, which is now in excess of £60m.

Manager Jose Mourinho is also committed to giving 19-year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek a chance to become part of the first team squad and doesn't want to block his path by making such a major acquisition.

Aware that they may be unsuccessful in their efforts to retain Pogba, The Evening Standard report that the Turin based side have earmarked Ramires as a possible replacement.

Pogba is expected to agree a move away from the Italian champions this summer and Juventus have been preparing for that possibility by drawing up a wish-list of targets.

They have been admirers of Ramires for some time and were aware that he was entering the final two years of his current deal.

However, Mourinho has no intention of selling the 28-year-old and wants to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea coach is a huge admirer of his versatility because he can play on the right flank as well as in central midfield.
