Bold Lambert rewarded for his attacking intent

It was by no means the startling first impression Blackpool managed 12 months ago; however, it is already clear Norwich will bring the same adventurous attitude to the Premier League.

A year ago, Ian Holloway's newly-promoted team turned heads with their 4-0 demolition of Wigan Athletic on the opening day. This year Paul Lambert's side could only manage a 1-1 draw against the Latics, yet the similarities are there for all to see. Lambert was bold in his selection, playing two up front, and his team were both easy on the eye going forward and defensively naive. Sound familiar?

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said: "In terms of the freshness, the bravery and belief with which they play, there are similar aspects [to Blackpool]. They've got very talented players from a technical point of view."

Those best and worse facets which became synonymous with the Seasiders were apparent in an entertaining first half. Wigan were gifted a penalty when Ritchie De Laet felled Franco Di Santo and Ben Watson clinically converted from 12 yards.

On the stroke of half-time, City's positivity paid off as Wes Hoolahan capitalised on a mistake by Ali Al- Habsi when the keeper spilled Steve Morison's cross, enabling the Irishman to rifle into the roof of the net.

Watson was unfortunate when he hit the woodwork with five minutes left but the Canaries deserved a slice of fortune. Lambert said: "The target is trying to win as many games as we can. Unless somebody tells me any differently then that's what the goal is."
