Turner's Wednesday future bleak under Bates

Ken Bates has revealed his plans to remove chairman Dave Allen and manager Chris Turner if he takes over at Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Chelsea chairman has finally begun negotiations with the Second Division club with a view to taking charge. Bates has already outlined plans to pull Wednesday clear of their financial problems and restore some pride to the embattled club and yesterday he said that the two men currently pulling the strings at Hillsborough will play no part in that future. "It is one or the other in terms of Dave Allen or myself," Bates said. "He says we are not compatible and I would agree with him. I was originally open-minded about Chris Turner's future but now he has dug himself into a pit saying that I know nothing about running a football club. Would he want to work for a chairman who he believes knows nothing about running a football club?"

Elsewhere, Neil Harris looks set to captain Millwall in next month's FA Cup final after being handed the captain's armband following Kevin Muscat's injury. Muscat could need surgery to repair damaged knee ligaments and is set to miss the 22 May showdown with Manchester United at the Millennium Stadium.

Harris was given the captain's role for the goalless draw with Cardiff in his absence. "I'm just sorry it had to happen this way," Harris said. "Muzzy is a natural leader. We all look to him to give us inspiration when we are struggling. I'm just looking after the shop until he comes back."
