Manchester United co-operating with police investigation into alleged Old Trafford racist attack

19-year-old worker allegedly assaulted and called ‘slave’ by security guards

Manchester United are co-operating with a police investigation into an alleged racist attack on a teenager at Old Trafford last month.

A 19-year-old working for an hospitality firm was allegedly assaulted and called a “slave” by security guards working for Controlled Solutions Group (CSG).

The teenager, referred to as ‘K’ in an account published on Twitter by Mancehster-based community group Kids of Colour, was allegedly left with bruised ribs and a fractured eye socket.

The incident is alleged to have occurred before United’s 5-0 Europa League win over Club Brugge on 27 February.

Both the hospitality firm and the security company are third parties to the club, contracted to provide match day services.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed on Tuesdat that they had opened an investigation into “a report of racially aggravated public order and alleged assault”.

CSG deny their staff were involved in “an assault or abuse of any type” and claim the boy’s account of events is “totally false and fabricated”.

A CSG statement read: “CSG will be fully compliant in support of any police or other investigation into these false allegations.

“We are extremely confident that their will be no further action by police or any evidence produced to corroborate this individuals claims following further inquiries.”

A United spokesperson said: “We are aware of an alleged serious incident prior to the Club Brugge match on 27 February. We are cooperating fully with the police and await an outcome from their investigation.”
