The Netherlands will be looking to get up and running in Group 1 of the Uefa Nations League A when they take on Germany Football in Amsterdam.

The Dutch find themselves in a transitional period after the retirement of stalwarts Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder, and they are already chasing the pack after a 2-1 defeat by France in September.

Germany managed to obtain a 0-0 draw with the World Champions three days previous to the Netherlands’ defeat, however Joachim Low’s side have remained unconvincing ever since the beginning of proceedings in Russia in the summer.

What time does it start?

Netherlands vs Germany kicks off at 7:45pm on Saturday 13 October.

Where can I watch it?

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports Mix from 7:40pm. Highlights will be shown on Sky Sports’ Football channel on Sunday at 9:45pm.

It’s a big game for…

Joachim Löw – The Germany coach has come under fire from former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack this week, stating that he was as surprised as many others that the 58-year-old was still in the post after their humiliating group-stage exit at the World Cup. If Toni Kroos’ riposte was anything to go by, Löw still has the backing of his squad but he needs to reenergise a side that too often has looked devoid of ideas in attack and too open as a backline that has consequently been changed frequently.

Weird /best stat…

15: Germany have won 15 of the 40 meetings between these two sides in all competitions, while there have also been 15 encounters which have ended as draws.

Remember when…

Football matches are often remembered for the action on the pitch, but rarely do they stick in the memory when they don’t even take place. The sides were due to meet in a friendly in Hannover in November 2015, but the match was cancelled 90 minutes before kick-off after German police received ‘concrete information’ about a bomb threat, fearing a similar attack to those in Paris a few days previous.

Player to watch…

Frenkie de Jong – The Ajax youngster is considered to be one of Europe’s biggest prospects and the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City are already being mentioned as possible future destinations. The 21-year-old, who can play in both midfield and defence, marked his first appearance for the national team with an assist in a win over Peru, but it will be his tireless work in midfield which he will hope to use to good effect in the Oranje’s attempts to frustrate Germany.
