Leeds take Thompson on loan to bolster escape plan

Leeds United have signed the midfielder Alan Thompson, 33, from Celtic until the end of the season. The manager, Dennis Wise, has brought in six new players during the transfer window as he attempts to avoid relegation from the Championship. The others are Tresor Kandol, Matt Heath, Robbie Elliott, Armando Sa and Tore Andre Flo.

Burnley have signed Aston Villa's midfielder, Eric Djemba-Djemba, on loan until the end of the season. The Cameroon international has failed to make an impactsince his £1.3m transfer from Manchester United in January 2005.
