Eden Hazard is expected to miss Chelsea's EFL Cup fourth-round tie with Derby on Wednesday with a back problem.

The Belgian sat out the Blues' win over Burnley on Sunday and will be watching on again as club legend Frank Lampard returns to Stamford Bridge.

Winger Pedro (illness) and striker Olivier Giroud (leg) are doubtful. Ethan Ampadu (knee) has returned to training but is unlikely to feature.

Lampard scored a club record 211 goals in 648 Chelsea appearances over 13 years and Chelsea assistant boss Gianfranco Zola is expecting his old teammate to get a rapturous reception.

"I'm sure it will be a big night for him. He's a legend of the club. We wish him well as a coach. It's not a surprise for me he's doing well."

Lampard joined Chelsea for £11million from West Ham in 2001.

Asked whether Zola identified Lampard's management potential even then, the Italian added: "I think you can understand when somebody has a future in this position because to succeed as a coach you really need the ability to spend a lot of time thinking over things. Frank has always had this ability.

"As a player he had a lot of physicality and technicality, but he spent a lot of energies on football, on and off the pitch."

Provisional squad: Kepa, Caballero, Rudiger, Alonso, Fabregas, Jorginho, Kante, Barkley, Pedro, Moses, Kovacic, Giroud, Zappacosta, Willian, Cahill, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Morata, Luiz, Emerson Palmieri, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Bulka.
