Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool have been drawn away to Exeter in the second round of the Carling Cup.
Liverpool, who won the last of their seven League Cups in 2003, will make a midweek trip to Devon to face Paul Tisdale's npower League One outfit at St James Park'.
They played Exeter at the same stage of the competition in 1981, with Dalglish scoring at home and away as Liverpool won 5-0 and 6-0 on their way to winning the trophy.
The ties will take place in the week beginning August 22.
Everton will host Sheffield United, while two of the three Barclays Premier League newcomers were given home ties, with Norwich playing MK Dons at Carrow Road and Neil Warnock's QPR facing Rochdale at Loftus Road.
Fellow top-flight new boys Swansea were handed a trip to Shrewsbury with five-time winners Aston Villa drawn at home against Hereford.
The unseeded teams were drawn earlier in the day and West Brom and Sunderland both face trips to the south coast to face Bournemouth and Brighton respectively.
Sheffield Wednesday were rewarded for last night's penalty shoot-out victory over Blackpool with a trip to Blackburn.
Wednesday manager Gary Megson told www.swfc.co.uk: "It's a Premiership team and you want to play the teams in the top division. I would prefer to be playing at Hillsborough but that's life.
"We will take a lot of fans to Ewood Park and they will travel no matter what the team is because they travel for Sheffield Wednesday."
Macclesfield will make the short trip to Bolton.
Wigan will travel to the winner of the rearranged tie between Crystal Palace and Crawley, while Scunthorpe take on Newcastle and Wolves travel to Northampton.
Yorkshire derby between Doncaster and Leeds was also one of the standout ties. Leeds' last meeting with Doncaster ended in a 5-2 win for Simon Grayson's team.
