Robben set to miss Manchester United clash

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben looks set to miss Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg clash with Manchester United after picking up an injury during Saturday's shock home defeat to Stuttgart.

The Netherlands international hobbled off the pitch after pulling up in agony when no player was near him.

It was reminiscent of the incident which led to David Beckham sustaining an Achilles injury, although Bayern have hinted that it may only be a calf strain.

"It doesn't look too bad, but he's doubtful for the match against Man Utd," confirmed Bayern manager Louis Van Gaal.

Robben has been in fine form recently but has been dogged by injury for several years during spells with Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart coach Christian Gross was delighted with his side's second-half display as they secured a shock 2-1 victory at title-chasing Bayern Munich.

Stuttgart's form has improved immeasurably since former Tottenham boss Gross replaced Markus Babbel midway through the season and Saturday's victory at the Allianz Arena lifted the team up to seventh in the Bundesliga table.

A thrilled Gross said after his side's fifth away win of the campaign: "It was time for another win in Munich. I'm absolutely delighted for the team.

"The first half didn't go as we had expected. I had hoped for more from our side but we were under pressure from our opponents.

"Zdravko Kuzmanovic brought a bit of stability into the game. After our lucky equaliser we defended cleverly and were very determined.

"We profited of course from the fact that Bayern were not so fresh after the cup game and they may also have had their minds on the Champions League. Our full-backs did a great job against their top players, but they also had enough support."
