Gareth Bale signs new six-year contract with Real Madrid

The 27-year-old forward, who moved to Madrid for a world-record fee in 2013, has won the Champions League twice in three seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu

Gareth Bale has agreed a new six-year contract with Real Madrid, tying down his long-term future to the club.

The 27-year-old forward arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 for a then-world record fee of £86m.

Bale has won the Champions League twice in three seasons since his move to Spain, establishing himself as one of world football’s elite players.

The Wales international joins Luka Modric, Lucas Vazquez and Toni Kroos in recently signing renewed terms at Madrid, with Cristiano Ronaldo expected to follow suit.

A club statement read: “Real Madrid CF and Gareth Bale have agreed to the extension of the player 's contract, which is linked to the club until 30 June 2022.

“On Monday, at 13:30, Gareth Bale will appear before the media in the room press the Bernabeu.”

According to initial reports of Bale's contract negotiations in Spain, his new contract will include a €500m (£450m) release clause.

Bale has scored 62 goals in 134 appearances for Madrid since joining in 2013 and was named in Uefa’s Champions League Squad of the Season last term.
