Outraged Manchester United fans are ready to complain to Uefa over ticketing prices for their Champions League Round of 16 tie against Sevilla, with the Spanish club charging more than double what Liverpool FC fans paid during the group stages.

Travelling supporters are being made to pay as much as £133 for a ticket for January’s last 16 tie in Spain, compared to the £54 Liverpool fans were asked to pay back in November.

United confirmed they had received an allocation 2,650 tickets for the game at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on 21 February with the cheapest seats available at £89 – which is still a 40 per cent increase on the £54 Reds fans spent.

Leicester City fans, when travelling to Sevilla during last season’s Champions League, had their tickets priced at £51, too. Based on the experiences of both Leicester and Liverpool, United told fans applying for tickets that the likely cost would be £54.

The Old Trafford club are thought to be aware of the concerns while the Manchester United Supporters Trust (Must) released a statement with their intentions to take their case to Uefa.

It read: “It is too early to know whether we can change this but we are already in contact with both Manchester United and Football Supporters Europe (FSE) and will be lobbying Uefa and other bodies who may be able to influence this exploitative pricing.”

Many United fans who were successful in getting tickets to the game through the club's ballot system may now be forced to forfeit their seats as a result of the price hike.
