Champions League: Manchester City vs Barcelona and Arsenal vs Monaco - what time do they start and where can I watch them?

A look ahead to the two remaining Champions League last-16 first legs that feature Premier League sides

Manchester City will know exactly what they’re up against when they take on Barcelona in the Champions League last-16 first leg on Tuesday having met the Catalans at the same stage last season.

City looked to be holding their own until Lionel Messi was brought down by Martin Demichelis, earning the defender a straight red card and giving Messi the chance to score from the spot which he duly converted.

A second red card in the rematch at the Nou Camp did nothing to help City’s cause, and they eventually went down to a 4-1 defeat and a disappointing exit from European competition.

But City have been handed a chance at redemption, and head into the match with the momentum provided by the 5-0 victory over Newcastle on Saturday evening that closed the gap to Premier League leaders Chelsea to five points.

On Wednesday, it’s Arsenal’s chance to take centre stage as they welcome Monaco to the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of their last-16 tie. The match sees Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger come up against the side he led between 1987 and 1994, and the two clubs met in the Emirates Cup at the start of the season when a Radamel Falcao header secured the French team a 1-0 victory.

What time does it start?

As with all Champions League last-16 ties, the match begins at 7.45pm and is one of two games taking place simultaneously. Should Manchester City vs Barcelona not tickle your fancy, then you can watch Juventus vs Borussia Dortmund in the other first knockout round to be played tomorrow evening.

On Wednesday, Arsenal kick-off their first leg against Monaco at 7.45pm at the same time as Bayer Leverkusen vs Atletico Madrid at the BayArena in Germany.

Where can I watch it?

City’s clash with Barcelona will be screened live on ITV from 7.30pm with kick-off at 7.45pm, while Dortmund’s trip to Turin will also be shown live on Sky Sports 5 from 7.40pm.

Arsenal’s match against Monaco will be shown live on Sky Sports 5 from 7pm with Bayer Leverkusen’s encounter with Spanish champions Atletico Madrid live on Sky Sports 1 from 7.40pm.
