Peter May, the Briton who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs at last November's World Championships in China, has been banned for life, the International Federation confirmed in Budapest yesterday.

Germany's Stephanie Utsch was also banned, but the IWF said it could only confirm the suspensions of May and Utsch because it was still waiting for results of the B sample analysis in other cases.

Last week, the IWF confirmed that the world champion, Alexei Petrov of Russia, had tested positive for steroids and faced a life ban if the result was confirmed by the B sample.
