Roy Evans, the Liverpool manager, has told his players that he wants a return to the days when English sides thrashed their foreign opposition out of sight.

Evans is setting a target of "as many goals as possible" against the Finnish part-timers MyPa- 47 in today's Cup Winners' Cup first-round first leg tie in Anjalankoski. The club paid for failing to score home or away against Brondby last season, so Evans is aware of the problem of going to Scandinavia.

"We have to score, and score as many goals as we can,'' Evans said. "I suppose one goal would do it but we have to try and win the game away from home, score as many goals as we can and make it comfortable for ourselves when they come to Anfield."

Evans expects to name a full-strength team. Defender Mark Wright has recovered from a knee injury and forwards Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler are showing no ill-effects from their back problems.
