Darren Lehmann hit an unbeaten 66 to capitalise on an opening stand of 152 between Scott Richardson and Matthew Wood in Yorkshire's match with Kent at Headingley yesterday.

The trio put Yorkshire in command, although the visitors' spirits were lifted in the closing stages of the second day by a fine spell of seam bowling by Matthew Fleming to reduce Yorkshire to 287 for 6.

Fleming took 4 for 18 in the space of 45 balls during his final spell but Yorkshire still led by 75 runs with four wickets in hand, a crucial advantage on a pitch showing signs of variable bounce.

Darren Thomas continued to enjoy himself at Essex's expense at Chelmsford. Glamorgan's all-rounder added 19 runs to his 119 not out from Wednesday before falling for 138. After Glamorgan were all out for 370, Thomas took 4 for 54 as Essex were dismissed for 193. After being forced to follow on 177 runs behind, they reached 136 for 1 at the close.
