Defeated Somerset seethe at slow play penalty

Somerset's Norwich Union League game with Glamorgan at Taunton ended controversially when the visitors were awarded six penalty runs at the start of the final over.

The Sabres were penalised for a slow over rate and Glamorgan were left with only six to make off Steffan Jones' final over, instead of 12.

Mike Kasprowicz then cover drove the first delivery for four and together with last man Andrew Davies helped the Dragons to a one-wicket victory.

Somerset were left fuming over the decision by the umpires Barry Dudleston and Barrie Leadbeater, who after two rain breaks ruled that they had not begun the final over by the deadline time of 7.19pm. Somerset's coach, Kevin Shine, was dumbfounded. "All I can say is that cricket, as well as ourselves, is the loser today," he said.

The Sabres had posted 220 for 9 from their 45 overs having been invited to bat on an overcast afternoon. Two short rain breaks thengave the Dragons a revised target of 209 off 39 overs and they got there with a ball to spare only because of the umpires' ruling.
