Steve Davies, the Surrey wicketkeeper, may make his Test debut today after being called up by England last night. Matt Prior, who has played 39 successive Tests, has an eye infection and Davies was summoned as cover from his county's match against Sussex.

Davies, 25, has played eight ODIs and five Twenty20s. He has not appeared since coming out as gay early last year, though he was the reserve Test wicketkeeper on both winter tours to the UAE and Sri Lanka. Prior has played in every match since missing the fourth Test against West Indies in Barbados in 2009 to be at the birth of his first child.
