Boxing: Lewis and Bowe are world apart

THE possibility that Riddick Bowe will meet Lennox Lewis in the near future appeared remote after negotiations broke off on Tuesday night.

Bowe's manager Rock Newman said he had offered Lewis a dollars 10m ( pounds 7.1m) purse, with an alternative, winner-take-all deal that could produce a pay-out of dollars 30m.

Frank Maloney, Lewis's manager, said he would accept dollars 10m, but various deductions would reduce Lewis's take to about dollars 4m.

Lewis said yesterday: 'I don't think Bowe's afraid to fight me. I think Rock Newman's afraid to fight me.' Newman's lawyer Milt Chwasky said: 'The most disappointed person is Riddick because he definitely wants the fight.'
