UN soldiers hit in Sarajevo
SARAJEVO (Agencies) - Three French United Nations soldiers were wounded and a Serbian officer killed by mortar fire in Sarajevo yesterday.
Forty-eight hours after the end of the London peace conference, which provided for withdrawal of Serbian troops and the handing-over of heavy artillery, doctors in Sarajevo said 20 people had been killed and 153 injured in continued fighting in the past 24 hours.
The leader of Bosnia's rebel Serbs, Radovan Karadzic, said his forces had begun lifting their siege of Gorazde, a town 40 miles south-east of Sarajevo that has been virtually cut off for five months. But Bosnia's Vice-President, Ejup Ganic, said heavy fighting was continuing.
