The family of 30-year-old British woman who died after travelling to Dubai have been forced to fundraise the money to bring her body home.

Charlotte Carter, from Swansea, was on a "girls' trip" when she began to feel ill on board the flight.

After the plane landed she was taken into intensive care and resuscitated “multiple times” but could not be saved, friends said.

A post-mortem examination is due to be held to determine the cause of death.

As the nurse did not have travel insurance her medical bills and costs of repatriating her body were estimated at £40,000.

A JustGiving page has been set up to raise money for Ms Carter's repatriation costs, medical and funeral expenses.

"Our gorgeous friend Charlotte tragically lost her life at the age of 30," it says. "She was so excited to go on holiday to Dubai on a girls trip but sadly she fell ill on the flight which resulted in her being taken to intensive care once arriving in Dubai. After being resuscitated multiple times she unfortunately couldn't be saved."

It has so far raised more than £21,000.

The Foreign Office has said it is "supporting the family of a British woman following her death in the UAE and are in contact with the Emirati authorities".

Tributes have poured in for Ms Carter on social media.

Kate George, who lives in Dubai, is a close friend of Ms Cater and was expecting to see her during the holiday.

“A tragedy doesn’t even describe what’s happened to our beautiful, witty charming girl. We love you,” she wrote on Facebook.
