Saudi forces rescued two German girls, aged three and five, who were kidnapped with their parents and brother during a picnic in Yemen last June.

The family was seized along with another four people in the northern region of Saada by a group affiliated to al-Qa'ida.

Two German nurses and a South Korean were found dead shortly afterwards. The girls' parents, young brother and a British national are still missing.

The girls were in good health and were due home today, Germany's Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said.
