Euthanasia case
In a landmark decision, a Dutch court yesterday acquitted a psychiatrist who helped a severely depressed woman commit suicide, AP reports from Amsterdam. Boudewijn Chabot, had prescribed a lethal dose of medication to the 50-year-old woman after she refused to consider therapy. The woman died in September 1991. The case in the eastern city of Assen marked the first time a physician was tried for the mercy killing of a patient whose suffering was mental rather than physical.
