The trapped puppies were discovered by a family who had gone for a walk in the countryside. One of the animals, which had swallowed petrol, died of its injuries.

The five-month old puppies are a cross between Ibizan hounds and greyhounds, which are often used as hunting animals.

A volunteer from the dog rescue centre has reportedly said “tests done on the two survivors show their kidneys and liver are okay at the moment but the outcome is unpredictable”.
