Sex pests outlawed
PARIS - The French National Assembly has adopted a law on sexual harassment in the workplace, outlawing professional pressure through unwanted advances, writes Julian Nundy.
The law, supported by the conservative opposition and the ruling Socialists, provides for information to be provided on employees' rights as well as damages for anyone deemed to be the victim of sexual harassment. Legal action can be brought by individuals, trade unions or other professional organisations. The Communists abstained because they said the law did not go far enough. Another law passed last year provides for penalties of up to one year in prison for employers found guilty of harassment.
