Norway lorry driver survives cliff plunge

A Lithuanian lorry driver suffered broken bones but survived after his vehicle tumbled 200 feet down a snow-covered cliff in central Norway, bringing a tow lorry with it.

Police spokesman Geir Riise said the lorry did not have the right tyres and was being towed up a serpentine mountain road in Leirfjord, some 435 miles north of Oslo, when it slid to the side and tipped over the guard rail.

A video shot from another car showed the trailer rolling down the side of the cliff, pulling along the rescue vehicle.

The tow lorry driver jumped out just in time but the Lithuanian driver went down with the larger lorry. He was taken to a hospital which said he had several bone fractures but is in stable condition.
