Eight die in Algeria clashes
Algiers (AP) - Four people were killed yesterday when police stormed an apartment where a group of armed Muslim militants had been holed up for three days, Algerian radio reported. Four others, including two policemen, were also killed in other fighting nearby, as battles between anti-government Muslim radicals and security forces continued.
Police, backed up by armoured vehicles, had surrounded the building since Monday. Residents of the building, who had been evacuated, returned to their homes yesterday evening.
